Default looking for turbo... unsure of my BEST options

i want to make as close to 400hp as possible.
d16z6 block and head with vitara pistons and FJ's rods. bored .20 over, fully built valvetrain w/ stock size valves, and zex 59300 cam. i would settle for 300 but 400 just sounds nicer. i will be port matching and polishing the head to the intake when i decide on one.

also curious if this goal is feesable and make a weekend driver out of it.

what are my turbo options for reliability and HP goal?.... i have read different people setups and tried to get an idea but straight answers to your personal questions seem better to me. thanks for helping.

Really depends what your budget is for the turbo, efficency seems to be a HUGE issue when it comes to D-series motors. a variant of a 30R will get you there as well as an S256, i beleve(i am not a BW expert by any means).

But its a start, i love the idea of a 400whp daily but with clutches and traffic its not always as fun as you think its going to be.

Weekend Driver is really a broad term. are you road racing, drag racing, or street/strip? HOW did you want this hp? responsive? A bit larger to be laggier for drag race? Journal Bearing? Ball bearing cartridge? Do you know yet?

Help us, help you.

the weekend car is just to have. drive around and show off sometimes... NO ROAD RACING, possible 1/4 once year ( until i get the bug*) as far as bearings... i haven't done enough research to know the pros and cons... YET... thats one reason for this thread.... i was thinking of spending 3000 on a whole turbo setup...

3000 for an entire setup is decently realistic with exception of the engine management for that goal, especially w/ a D-series engine. Most of the Rev-Hard, and Spoolinperformance kits can do that without a problem.

I personally recommend SpoolinPerformance.

Make sure that you know the laws in your state with regards to emissions and venting to the atmosphere. That will change your ability to choose certain parts. Not many here are going to spoon feed each part for the next, so make sure you understand what you NEED first before worrying about if everyone else got the same thing. 9 times out of 10, you'll see similar components on these setups.

Stay away from e-bay.. completely.

recommended engine management systems

Hondata S200 or S300
Neptune
E-manage Ultimate.
AEM F I/C (Not the true standalone).. It works very well from the feedback I've received so far, I'm researching further after May 15th

thanks... i am personally happy with the 300 mark, basically what it comes down to is RELIABILITY....

needs to be reliable...
as far as emissions as long as its a 94 and under you are not hooked up to a SNIFFER...so you don't have to pass emissions just safety.

now how about turbo's and wastegates? i would really like ot know what turbo would be most reliable getting to my HP goal? i really only wanna work on this once and just have fun after that... (other than maintance)

Welp, see that's the thing. there's no ONE turbo to be able to do that. There's about 10 applications off the top of my head that could work. For the 3K budget, Garrett keeps it rather inexpensive, but I would stay in T3/T4 format, journal bearing, under 60 "trim", size. What is the budget you have for the turbocharger? With Spoolin performance, he typically uses 4 bolt exhaust housings to work with the downpipe..

Not on this forum unfortunately. Especially since there are a TON of options on there, you gotta do a little more work, because it is not as "cookie cutter" as you think for what you want to achieve ultimately. The more specific you get, the more specific the response..
