Gut the Cat
I will soon have a custom exhaust system put on my car and i was just wondering if there are any troubles after gutting the cat. Does it throw any codes? Is it worth doing... i dont care how loud it is i just want the most performance. Any real benefits from doing this?? BTW, i will have Intake, Headers, Nitrous, and maybe a cam if i can find one somewhere. Thanks.
I can second the fact that gutted cats sound terrible, it sounds all hollow and raspy. Test pipes are actually resonated somewhat and sound much better. Even a straight pipe section sounds better because in a gutted cat, the tube widens and then narrows again producing that hollow sound.

If you decide to go with a test pipe, I have a stainless steel OBX unit that I'll sell for cheap (on the car for a week). It will have to be welded in place, though, I had to remove the flanges to get it to fit. If you're interested, shoot me an e-mail at cvcc721@yahoo.com.

I have gutted my cat but I haven't heard it or felt the perf. yet cuz the engine isn't totally ready (LS/VTEC), but how shitty does it sound and could u explain more in detail why it hurts perf.? Thanks.

Open header with gutted cat = Lookofsky's car
Open header with nice big Accord cat = GSXR with a pipe
It's hard to explain the difference when you are running a full exhaust, but just please take everyone's advice and get a test pipe AT LEAST.
