My Short Shifter Is Vibrating
Hey guys so I just instaled a B&M short shifter ES poly shift bushings and a new type R boot on my 00 SI. Now I get a crazy vibrating noise from my shifter when its in 2nd and 4th gear. I cant figure out why itis doing this and its really annoying. Anyone have any ideas on what this might be and how i can fix it. I have a feeling its the sleeve that inserts into the botom of the shifter but im not for sure. Help me out guys thanks.
Well, the poly bushings are going to stiffen things up a little, an increase in the vibrations is going to be normal. For example, if you install poly motor mount inserts the car is going to vibrate a lot more versus stock motor mounts.

Great point. My O2 sensor actually rubbed against the shifter bar because I had an extender on the O2 sensor to act like a O2 simulator.

make sure all the bolts that hold the shifter assembly togather are tight as well. They can come loose over time. Also, as mentioned before, it can be worn shifter bushings, as well as bad motor mounts that send unneccesary vibrations on the linkage.
i replaced the shifter bushings tho so the rattle sounds like its coming from the sleeve that the bolt goes through in the bottom of the shifter. Say imin 4th gear if it is in gear and i apply pressure by pushing the shifter to the left or the right the sound goes away.... Is there supposed to be rubber bushings that rest beteent the bottom of the shifterand thebracket that mounts to it?

It sounds like an installation problem then, check all your bolts to see if everything is tight.

I guess and im not trying to sound like I know everything but I know I installed it tight. I want to know if there are like rubber washers that sit up against the bottom ball of the shifter and the inside of the mounting bracket that bolts to the bottom ball. I feel like the sleeve that you push into the bottom ball of the shifter has a little space in the bracket and thats what is rattling....

You aren't sounding like a know it all, you are more than entitled to stand by your work; if you did something right and you know it, stand by your wrench skills. You get props for having faith in your installation skills.
With that said, if your shifter came with rubber washers then it's probably a good idea to use them, or just tighten the bottom ball bolt so there isn't a gap.

i might have to try this...my b&m SS rattles like no other when i'm above 5,000 rpm. During neutral it vibrates more than usual and it really gets annoying. I've installed the es bushings, which helped with smoother shifts and less vibration but the problem still hasn't gone away.

Ding Ding, Correct! That would be caused by a lose bolt holding the Short Shifter on to the U brace part of the linkage. Its ok tho cause your gonna end up putting the stock one back on eventually once you realize short shifters suck.
