i had to replace the motor out of a guys car that decided second gear was appropriate for the freeway (13k rpm). it was a 99 si, ended up putting a first gen jdm b16a in it. it is necessary to replace the oil pump because that is where the crank sensor is located.

my bet is that you need a crank angle input to get some spark. but i might be wrong, it could just run in limp mode without it. but you might as well fix it, its not going to run very well without that input. gl.

the cfs (crankshaft flucation sensor) does not effect how the car runs. The only purpose it serves is to detect misfires. Its probably a igniter or coil issue.
