Someone hit my fender.. lucky ??
Yesterday a man hit my front fender while he was backing out of a parking lot and damaged my 300$ civic. I just finished fixing the front (hood/lights) and did one hell of a job. It looked tighter than new! Anyways I went to my dealer and he estimated the damage at 450$ for damage which is hardly visible
Am I lucky or a plain criminal for having the man pay (which is insurance issue anyways) for the damage that I can fix myself for 50$?

You are lucky you saw the guy that did it. I was hit and run twice (once in the fender, the other in the bumper) within a month. The fender was crushed and rubbing my tire. The bumper isnt that bad, it just kind of got pushed down a little. The fender still isnt fixed, although I have a spare now. I guess I should get it ready to paint. Are you fixing it yourself either way (using the dealer as just a quote)? Or is it you just letting the insurance companies handle it? If you were doing it privately, I would do it for the $50 and get 150-200 from him.
I hate people who hit and run.. those are lowlife scums..
I thought about getting a figure from the man but he said it was his mistake and it was ok for the insurance company to handle it.. So we filled in the papers and next week an insurance dude will have a look at the car.
The dealer said I was lucky for this "little" but costly damage.. he usally wrecks a car completely

of course you should make him pay for it!

i'd say bring it to the dealership.

well, if he was nice and waited for you so he could tell you he hit you, just make him pay $100. If you caught him and it looked like he was gonna run, take the cash. A guy did this to my car and was gonna run, but my girl caught him and he stopped. But I should've let the insurance get involved, could've got $4000 instead of $2500 for the gash in my rear quaterpanel.
The dude hit me.. Today I found out the hood , which was a perfect specimen from the scrappyard, has a dent as well so the figure of 450$ is sure to rise even more..
Even when the damage looks small the cost to repair can be huge..
