Make sure you get one that is at least snell rated 95 . Thats actually only good until the end of this year . Your best shot is to get a snell 2000 or newer or after the end of ths year that helmet will not be accepted at tracks . OH yea the HJCS are pretty reasonable . I got one for my boyfriend .

Actually, I believe the Snell 95 will be fine for a few more years. Snell 90, however, will expire soon. Snell 90 is not ok for SCCA road racing.
I have two Bieffe helmets. They are a great value.
You really should try on a helmet before you buy it, but who says you have to buy it at the place you try it on. Go down to a motorcycle shop, or wherever you want, try on a few helmets, then go home and buy the helmet you like best online.

I was at the track recntly when a NHRA tech inspector told me my helmet was only good till the end of this year .Either way it benefits you to get a newer rated one. That way it wont expire as quickly.

I'm not convinced that getting the absolute newest rating is that beneficial from the 'time to expire' standpoint. Realize this: you don't really want to keep a helmet for 5-10 years. Especially a M rated one. M rated helmets are not designed to take multiple impacts... you drop it on the ground and it will need to be replaced. It bangs around in your trunk--need a new helmet.
Aparently SA helmets, part of the difference, besides the fire resistent lining is that they are supposed to take multiple impacts, although still needs to be within reason.
Basically over the course of 5 or so years, your helmet will get some dings, and likely will loose a lot of its effectiveness. When it comes to my brain, I'd rather err on the side of caution--$200 or so bucks over the course of 3 or so years is negligible.
Lastly, you're NHRA tech inspector was either incompetent or misinformed. Snell 90 will NOT be allowed by most/all major sanctioning bodies next year, but Snell 95 should be allowed for at least 5 years from now.

I picked up a Bieffe Helmet SA-95 helmet...mainly becuase it's light as all hell(great for track days where you're wearing if for 35 minutes at a time while pulling g's in the corners) and because it was on a closeout list that the local retailer was able to order.
The local shop ordered the helmet throught this Bieffe distributor http://www.bellmotorsports.com/ they also sell to the public and have a nice list of closeout items.
I went a little overboard and have an F1 style helmet:

Austin
