Hey.. my friend got a head from a junkyard, for his 92 civic. When we were bolting up the exhaust manifold one of the studs pulled out of the head. Now, he wants to know if he can just mix up some JB weld put it on the stud and fire it in the hole, let it dry and tighten it up.

Sure it will hold, but how is it when it comes to temperature, will it break down? Hes just looking for a easy fix that will work.

I told him to drill/tap but.. he dosen't want to. So will the JB weld work?

ive been told jb doesnt hold up well to heat.

i would use a timesert or helicoil if you cant afford the timesert kit

you can get a cheap knock off helicoil kit off ebay for about $25 that works great

 

JB can hold up to about 600deg according to the label on the instructions......the exhaust manifold and probably the studs get hotter than that.

Do it right the first time. You'll have to helicoil it.

I used JB weld on my midpipe (which doesn't even get that hot) and it melted out within days.

 

i wouldnt jb that. either helicoil or drill and tap for a slightly larger size

I used it in an app like that before and it didnt last either

re-tap it with a bigger hole if you can get away with it..

 

i did it b4 and it worked but dont overtighten it or it cracks.. and drill the hole a bit bigger so the stuff can have a solid form in there after its drilled and tapped

 

ok guys, we will drill it out and re-tap it next larger size.
