What's going on here? Problem?
You're kidding right? He does not have any rebound dampening as the spring extends.
I've done what you've done before. You'll need to remove the spring and shock, and reinstall the rubber grommets and washers, and collar in the right order. Pick up a Haynes Manual, it will show you the correct order. More or less you need to fasten the top of the shock shaft to the upper spring hat.

I just bought a haynes on ebay. Is it bad to ride like this, or should it be fixed asap?
Also, what made it do this? Like I said, it was fine for several months and then all of a sudden I noticed it when I popped my hood to do some maintence.

Until you fix it you have no damper function and the handling will be dangerous (just like you had a completely blown 'shock', i.e. damper). You'll have to pull the whole coil-over out and dismantle it to see exactly what's wrong.
By the way, your tower brace is rubbish...
