its probably a 323GT-R. Really rare, really fast, and really nice! The US and Canada only got the 323GTX which is a AWD Hatch, and the 323GT which is a FWD 4-door sedan. The engine used in the GTX and GT is the Mazda B6T. 1.6 liter, 16-valve, DOHC, turbocharged by a IHI VJ-14 turbocharger. Pretty much a low-compression, beefed up version of the engine used in the miata, except different connecting rods, cams, and oil pump. Turbo spools to full boost around 2300 rpms.
The sedan is faster then the hatch because it doesn't have the drivetrain power loss that goes along with the AWD.
GT
0-60 in 7.4 seconds
1/4 in 15.9 @86mph
Weight 2426lbs
GTX
0-60 in 8.7 seconds
1/4 in 16.4 @ 84mph
Weight 2572
I really like these cars
Oh, I have a 323GT sitting in my driveway
Check my avatar... thats a pic of the decal on the rear doors

realy , so the Miata engine would be a perfect boost beast, I talk about cooling lines in the block and head. Of course you have to change the pistons, rods, for heavy load.

engines are much cheaper too....can pick a complete swap out for under 1000.

I had a 323 GTX for quite a while.
It was a little anemic untill the boost came on @3K rpm or so.
That and a second gear synchro problem for many of the cars from people that couldnt shift (since I was the third owner of that car).
Handled great, though!!
