Default vtec for drag applications.....read this

i was talking to this guy who has a nice 90 crx gsr swap...turbo...all the good stuff...and he told me he took out the low rpm vtec mass (basically disabling vtec).....because he wanted it running the high rpm airpath all the time since it was mainly for dragging......

how much would this help your e/t's hes caimed it would noticeably

personally ive done it. low RPM tuning sucks because your riding on a big lobed cam all the time. ETs didnt change and realistically i dont see the functionality of it unless its in a full race application.
if your at the track and your racing for ETs either your in VTEC or your not. there is no advantage unless your VTEC solenoid isnt working properly.
a guy that is very well known used the phantom grip rockers (same as i did). it lightens the overall mass being moved by the cam because the rocker arms are aluminum and it extended their RPM range a bit higher. i think he said it made power 300more RPM or so.

funny story i know a guy who wires his vtec solenoid into his horn button. really stupid i think but he loves it. vtec at any rpm you wish and when ever you wish. horn is obviously disconnected.

please enlighten us how he did that. last time i checked the horn is operated with a negative grounding trigger thus completing a path to ground. VTEC solenoids work with 1 wire which is 12V. the vtec solenoid is already grounded through the head.

not all civics horns work on a ground system, but the ones that do... all you need is a 30w 12amp relay .. yea i used to be ghetto like 7 years ago, now i leave my **** hooked up to the computer and tune it with my laptop

i hate ghetto threads... but if the horn grounds when activated...and the solenoid is activated by 12 volts....

Remove the solenoid ground. Connect solenoid to 12v's. Route solenoid ground to horn.

When he presses the horn... it grounds the solenoid. tada! vtec on a horn

i know how to do that but if hes so ghetto that hes got his vtec hooked up through his horn he most likely doesnt know how to use a relay therefor it becomes a BS story.

why is it ghetto? stupid yes, ghetto not really. just personal preference. not my thing just saying its do-able. obviously he would know how to use a relay considering he knew how to make the horn switch complete a circuit instead of just grounding it out. which YOU didnt.

shut the [freak] up [pejorative]. im a [freak]ing electrician.

its stupid and ghetto period. if you knew anything about the function of VTEC and the performance value of VTEC being set at a proper RPM you would know why its stupid and ghetto.

hahaha this is funny.

i didn't know it was grounded through the head... I suppose you could insulate it from the head with a rubber mounting isolator. Drill/tap/and make a new ground strap that went throught the switch. And THEN... get some AN fittings and make an oil feed/return line from the solenoid....after making a cnc capture for the actual solenoid assembly. (We can do that here!)

Anything is possible

im no albert einstein eric, but he insults my intelligence level saying that i couldnt hook up a simple relay.
i **** relays kid. 12 volts are for pussies. come play with some 277/480 and/or some 2160.

You guys are all wrong, you should use the Super Sequetial vTak!! Yo solenoid. Seriously, if you have the high cam mechanically locked you will never have to worry about a circuit, solenoid, etc failure in a drag racing situation. Of course you should use a programable ecu and setup one fuel map.

the reason the horn button is consideder ghetto, is because, just turning on the solenoid, does nothing for the fueling and timing needs.
