toda had "vtec killer" cams.. they were hollow and probably made great peak numbers @ 10,000+ or something...

no real reason to lock your car on the vtec lobe though, probably more trouble than its worth.

I dont believe you will hurt the motor by reving high without Vtec. If you want to see if there is a diffrence with out Vtec just unhook the Solenoid wire.

PM rota92

Brad locked Vtec open on our head last season. Ryan will get in touch with Brad at RLZ

Yes it will make more HP.

vtec is designed to give the engine the fuel/air level it needs for low end power, and the higher amount in high rpm driving.
locking it IN vtec will hurt your low end torque, hondas wonderful downfall.
locking the motor in vtec, will make it run on a map thats not right, and its just al around no good far making power because it gives it that ideal motor, good mix a low, and good mix at high, thats the entire point.

wikipedia vtec and read up

word to that.
it is like the difference between having an open intake and a stock one with no other mods: low end torque goes to hell, high end gets a little peppier.

Not wise.
more intake restriction in the low-mid end is best for power. same goes for exhaust i believe.

I think the last 2 posters missed the point this is a "drag race engine"

Who cares about low end power. The rpm's never get below 6500. rota was shifting at 9500.

Are you talking about no vtec, or full-time vtec? This thread is confusing. Anyway, no vtec is definitely bad on a vtec head. Full-time vtec is great if you have vtec eliminating cams, because you can get rid of a ton of valvetrain mass (all the middle rockers and vtec pins) as well as the LMAs. This not only frees up more power but it makes the valvetrain more stable for high RPM revving.

Lower your vtec point. Find out where vtec is beneficial for power gains and set it there.
requires more effort, but your quarter mile time will benefit from not losing torque/hp below 4000rpm.
