Default Need some experienced help. Clutch sticks, hard to press, and low engagement.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this.

To make a long story short, I was driving and and all of the sudden my clutch pedal engagement point kinda shifted. It use to engage pretty high and now it engages almost right off the floor. Also the pedal has gotten a lot stiffer to press. This all also coincided with the clutch pedal becoming very noisy and creaky.

Right off the bat I thought my cable might have become worn and stretched a bit, so I bought a new one and just installed it today. The noisy/creakyness is completely gone now. But the low engagement point and pedal being very firm are still there.

To change the engagement I tightened up the cable a bit, which seemed to help, but then the clutch pedal would stick to the floor when fully depressed.

So yeah, now I'm scratching my head thinking wtf, and I'm not sure what to look at next. Like I said this kinda just started out of the blue and wasn't something that got worse over time.

Any help or info would be great.

Thanks.

Check for damage to the pedal, mounting point, or to the spring.

Will do. Anything in particular I should be looking for as far as damage?

Spring seems ok, but I did notice with the clutch cable disconnected it would "spring" to the floor once it was pressed all the way down. Seemed somewhat odd to me, be appeared to be normal.

Clutch pedal assembly looks to be just fine.

Also I should mention that previous to the I would always notice a small dip in rpm when releasing the clutch in neutral(throwout bearing) Now I can basically pump the clutch with no rpm change what-so-ever.

I'm thinking I might just change the clutch, but I'd hate to have the same problem after.

Any ideas?

Well I'm definitely heading towards a new clutch it seems.

Went out and tinkered with it a bit today and didn't get anywhere. Clutch was still super firm and the engagement was ever so low.

Finally I got pissed and literally started jumping on the clutch pedal. Stomped it a good 15-20 times, and presto, it's seems to be back to normal. Still a bit notchy but firmness is back to what it was before and should be. From there I adjusted the engagement back closer to the top where it was before.

I'm guessing 1-2 of the springs on the pressure plate are getting out of whack and causing the hard pedal? It's the only thing I can think of really, and stomping on the clutch seems to have reseated them?

Thoughts?

I'll be putting 400 miles of stop and go on her monday and tuesday so I'm praying she holds until I can get a clutch here. What would you guys recomend? Act?

I think that's what it is.
