Default tint. diy or no-way?

after getting quoed 500 for the two front windows and legal top strip on my accord. i', considering doint it myself. i found this tinters forum where the shop that quoted me was on asking questions!!!!!

anyway from their posts i found out their lifetie warranty was a hack andis offered by 3M the tint company, they also just heat shrink with baby poweder and sometimes wet shrink.

so they remove the wondos and tuck the tint behind the window.

after discovering this i want to try to tint myself, i like workingon cars and this "skill" ifits even considered one *its not welding or building motors* would be something i should try.

should i tr it?

if i did attempt it i would ddef use a qualuty tint no pep boys, az or wal-mart forsure

If you CAN do it yourself with confidence, why would you even think about dropping $500 on a tint job? That ****'s a crock anyway. I've gotten three lifetime warranty tint jobs from a local place for less than two bills each. Go somewhere else if you're not going to DIY

BTW: This probably belongs in A/C

i've done the top strip b4 its pretty easy if u have the right tools

if u wanna do the 2 front windows u should just pull em out the door

that would make it a whole lot easier

If you are going to do it your self I would highly recomend watching someone first. If you don't you will be atempting this for a few days and end up giving up after much frustration. It seems simple but it is the details that make it hard. I recomend going to a different tinter because 2 fronts usually cost $150. You can usually pick up rolls of 3m tint from local tint shops for around $180 and if you dont f' up too many windows they can tint 12+ cars.

i went out and bought:

-tint squgee
-a "hard card" something that can bu used as one
-a bondo knife-spreader
-that white sponge thing at walmart that alot of tinters use (they speciifcally tell you which one on that tint forum)
-spray bottle.

the plan is to-

take both front passenger windows out. it's 2 bolts

take them inside ( no place in the garage i got 3 motors welders, and a project car haha)

soak it down with the bottle. cut to shape.

soap down the window alighn then peel the clear liner

set it.......remove excess water

wrap tint around the bottom of the window so there is no seam there ( it said to do this with all honda/acura vehicles becuase they like to peel from the bottom from the door panel "felt" liner.

am i on track here?

also is it true to not roll the windows down until 5 days has passed?
they also said to tell the customer that the "small" bubbles will go away after 2 weeks since it will never be perfect

hair dryer is not hot enough. As far as how to use it... This is one of those things that you will have to watch. You basicly work all the excess plastic to the middle and start shrinking it. Dont work one area too long or you will burn the tint.
