I GIVE UP! taking tint off isnt as easy as it looks
today i had nothing to do so i decided to take the tint off my car. i did a search and found that the best way for me to take it off was to put a trash bag and amonia over the tint. i did exactly wat it said on the info i found. but as i removed the trash bag with amonia the tint was still hard to take off. maybe its because the tint is soo old and is stuck to the window. anyways i removed some of the tint but there was like an extra layer under it. i started to get frustrated and ended up accidently cutting my finger with a razor blade i was using. i give up, i'm just going to take it to a tint shop to remove it. does anyone know how much it is for that. or can anyone give me extra tips on removing the tint

Should have tried it in the summer. You need the heat to warm the glue up so you can get it off. Looks like you're going to be using a heat gun/hairdryer and a razor blade now guy.

I had tint on my ride for at least 4 years since I've acquired it, plus the time when the previous owner had it. By now, you'd figured the tint is actually imprinted on the glass due to its age.
Well, what I did was took a razor and sliced off a strip near the top. I then took a bottle of Windex window cleaner and sprayed the sliced tint on the window and let the NH3 seep in between the tint and glass for the next three minutes.
I then peeled the tint off the glass easily until it won't peel no more. Added more Windex between the peeled tint and glass, let seep for 3 minutes and continued. It took me about 25 minutes to remove the entire tint from the front two windows. After that, I cleaned the residue off with a bottle of foaming glass cleaner purchased from AutoZone

yea same with my old car
best thing in the world you ask to take it off?
brake fluid, yes the gunky **** comes off like butter with a blade and some brake fluidyup
get the paper off with a hair dryer no matter how much gunkey **** stays on the window
spray the whole freakin window with brake fluid more on the sticky spots and go right to it with a blade horizontal lines if youve ever seen tint guys clean your windows before they put that **** on
do it like that

womens fingernail polish/paint remover works like a charm on the sticky adhesive stuff that is left on the window.

Brake fluid is going to stain and take off paint. Just so you know.

Okay, some suggestions are really bad... Really bad...
I used to install tint...
Get a large black garbage bag. Spray the tint with water, lay the bag over the tint and smooth it out. Start your car with all the windows up, put high heat on with defrost. Let it run for about an hour. This is a trick of the trade... The tint will peel right off taking the glue w/ it.
If you use steal wool and or a razor for the rear window you will ruin your defrost.
Any left over glue? Simple green eats the glue away...

Re: (976)
976 sugestion = best method I have seen. Brake fuild = worst. haha. Yeah You basically need to heat up the glue, could use a combo of heat and simple green or windex. Otherwise...yeah what 976 said

okay, thats like the same thing, the soap + water will desolve the glue which makes is so easy to peel off. then use simple green to take off the rest of the residue, and you dont have to let your car on for 1 HOUR. takes 5 minutes a window

Re: (frosteg6)
I also watched the guy at the tint place remove all my tint from the 3 rear windows...and the trash bag method was exactly what the guy did for the rear defroster window, it was a really hot day, so the car was just parked with the windows rolled up, no defroster or heater turned on. And for the rear side windows on my EG he used a small handheld propane torch from the outside to heat up the glass and the tint on the inside, that **** peeled off and curled like nothing, and all he had to do was scrape the little glue left on the window with the windex and razorblade after all the tint was peeled off. The trashbag method takes patience though, to make sure it lays flat on the glass surface, lay the black lawn bag on the outside of the window and cut it to the exact shape of the window so that when it is put in on the inside, it will fit perfect, I think this cutting trick is used for installation of tint as well.
