This axle was swapped a few weeks back and there has been a slow leak coming from it. It looks like it MAY not be butted up all the way comparing to the passenger side but only may 3-5mm or so. VERY VERY small. Im gonna try to put it in all the way tonight but any other ideas what it could be or other fixes?

if its the seal is there an easy way to replace it? I couldnt find anything in the helms

its the axle seal.
seriously just replace it. its like maybe 10 dollars from honda
and no you have to pull out the axle to replace it.
i got good at doing that
takes me about 15 minutes!

 

is this in the helms? just pull the axle and grab the old seal with plyers then do i have to press the new one in? whats the easiest way for this?

 

yeah just pull the axle off, then you can use a flat head to pry the old one off. then just lightly tap the old one back in.

remember to drain the trans first!

use cheap 10w-30 non synthetic motor oil if it's a manual trans.

 

you don't need to drain the tranny to change the axle seal. to put the new axle seal in just take large socket that is roughly the same size and hammer on the socket with a rubber mallet to get the axle seal back in.

oh and you might want to check what your tranny fluid level is at just incase.

 

agreed to gizzerhatch, don't need to drain tranny fluid when changing axle seal, unless ur gonna change the fluid anyways, then go for it.

 

Thanks all. Just gonna finish it up in the morning. You were all right. The Axle Seal was torn. Maybe when putting it back together ill take pics and do a little write up

There was a piece torn out of the seal and it was pretty much cracked all the way around.

You can use curved plyers to pull the old one right out and use your hand to push the new one in evenly then i used the back of a screw driver just to bang it down a little more

 

Hmmm...I have the same problem with my driver side axle. Maybe I'll give this a shot. Thanks

 

Replaced my driver side axle seal yesterday. It was definitely in bad shape. And I don't know how that piece of my tranny got knicked on the bottom side there. Most likely that was part of the cause.
