Default Odd Acting Tachometer, flashing radio and now no start up.

Hi,

I have a 90 crx. On the way home today the tachometer dropped to zero and only registered RPMs when I pushed the clutch in. Then, the radio starting blinking on and off . When I got home I turned the car off and then tried it five minutes later. Now it won't crank at all. It sounds as if the battery is dead but the battery is only 3 weeks old. I push started it but it died after a few minutes. I don't understand how the battery could mess with the tachometer. How can I tell if something is draining the battery?

Thanks,

Jake

Update:

I took off the distributor cap and replace it tightly. I removed the battery cable and cleaned it throughly. I am certain that it is a dead battery because now it won't attempt to crank and the lights on the dash are very dim. The battery is almost brand new. How do I find out what is draining the battery?

Check if your battery negative ground wire is hooked up to your frame. My dumb *** had the same problem and one day I looked at my battery and noticed that I forgot to put a ground from the battery to the frame besides the engine. Stupid mistake but check. Trust me, it makes the lights dim, instrument panel, radio etc.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I have now checked the positive cable and the negative cable and all other grounds to no avail. Hmm...
