Default dash light stopped working

Some of my cluster lights have stopped working. The only lights that don't wark are the lights used to illuminate the speedo tech ect. the dummy lights are all still working. I have been testing the circuits and it seems that the + and - are both showing a continuous circuit. I really am frustrated at this point. The lights were working ok and occasionally they would go out but smacking the cluster usually brought them back on. now I am totally in the dark. Does any one have a wiring diagram for these lights and the dimmer? I have tried to trouble shoot this from the headlight switch to the dimmer and to the lights but I am not sure how everything is wired up so I am getting no where.

I found this diagram but its not really helpful.

the car is a 93 civic ex.

Tried messing with the rotary **** that controls the brightness settings? Mine started going out and if I bent the 3 pongs in back just right it'd turn back on. Stuff is getting old...

Have you checked your fuses, though i find it hard that would be the problem since you say before you just smacked it and it worked.

Have you taken out the cluster gages and checked it? make sure bulbs are well in place and functional.

yeah I have tried messing with the dimmer.

I have checked the fuse, it is fine.

I had the whole dash apart and the cluster all the way out. If would like to just try connecting a direct 12v source to the cluster so make sure the lights work but I am not sure what wire I would need to hok on to. I doubt all the bulbs could have gone out at once so I am sure the should be good.

Ok, im no help from here and on....i would suggest using friends cluster if any to test. If lights dont work on that one either, get wiring diagram and check the cables/plugs with a tester and start testing

Hope someone with more knowledge can help you.

Bump for answers

yeah fuses of course you would always check
thats first
then you would just go down the line
but i did all the steps lol
and i just was thinking what else runs those dash lights
and its the dimmer switch so i just got one
and its just a unplug plug back in thing
try it and let me know man
hopefully it works

i had this same problem in mine. it started with the dash lights and evenutally affects the taillights. there is a ground wire by itself under the dash on the right side of the steering column. i took out my guage cluster to get too it, but later realized i could get to it from under the dash. it had a bad connection so i just cut off the original connector, replaced it, and screwed it back on. good as new.
