Stripped threads on b18c block
There was oil leaking between my head and block so i decided to change out head gasket, when i was loosening the head i found that half the head bolts were not even torqued down all the way. once i got the head off and check out the holes, i found that half the threads fell off and were on the bolts still.
has this happened to anyone before?
i been tryin to do as much research as i could: helicoils, timeserts, etc. or even just getting studs put in permanently. should i keep the block or start with a new platform.

It also depends how extent the damage is. My friend try to get his repaired with timeserts and helicoils, but they didn't hold up. He had to get a new block.
from experience i cant tell you if you do heli-coils do it right. i like helicoils, but i recommend timecerts, i installed a BIGcert after i had a helicoil pull out and it saved my gsr block.
BTW the story of my block is i purchased a gsr block with a b16 head here locally out of a Em1 and the people who had the car installed the B16 head using the b16 headstuds(no no).

what did you end up doing? im having the same problem, the holes in the block stripped with the bolts then i got ARP studs. Half are torqued down fine but the rest just wont grab

What did you expect? Did you honestly think that the ARP head studs would magically repair the stripped threads in the block for you? You have to get the stripped threads repaired with thread inserts or heli coils. It won't matter if you're using OEM head bolts or ARP head studs if you don't get those stripped threads repaired.

i just called up Golden Eagle in San Dimas, I was told they use Timeserts and charge $25 1st hole and $20 each additional, not bad at all. Except i live 3hrs away
