Default Newbe Needs Help: New Motor, Car is sluggish taking off?

I have a '96 Civic 5spd. with a new D16Y8, stg. 1 crower camshaft, new distributor, new TPS, new ECU/PCM, only one (new)O2 sensor in header, timed at 12 degrees, new timing belt kit, no cat or knock sensor. The problem is that it takes off extremely sluggish but smoothes out at about 2500 rpm's, then runs perfect. If I rev up to about 5000 rpm's at take off it runs perfect also. Please help...

Do I need to change to timing to 16 degrees BTD?

The car needs to be tuned because of the mods you have done. Get you ecu socketed and chipped and have it tuned on crome. Search on here to find a tuner in your area.

edit: you need to convert to obd1.

So is that all I really need to do is get my ECU reprogrammed?

No, you need to buy an OBD1 ECU, convert your car to use an OBD1 ECU, and then you need to get your new OBD1 ECU socketed so it can be tuned, THEN you get it tuned.

With after market internals (cam) you really shouldn't be driving around on a stock tune.

Before I ordered the cam, I talked to the people at Crower and they told me it wouldn't effect anything, it would only give me a little more power. What should my timing be set at? Right now its at 12 degrees BTD?

Here's the info. on the Stg. 1 crower camshaft:
Stage 1 - Features far more agressive ramp rate then stock with added duration.
Idle to 7200+ rpm. Advertised Duration 292 / 302, Duration @ .050" 228 / 208, Lift w/ 1.6 int 406 / 1.8 ext 385

Adjust your timing. Changed the degree and now it runs like it should.
With your cam, have it tuned!

Could my VTEC solenoid or my MAP sensor be bad?

Alright, I got an OBD1 P28, and I'm getting it tuned/socketed Monday. Is there anything else I should go ahead and do?
