Default Newbie dictionary please?

I've hit the search button many times, and I still haven't quite found the solid definition of things. I am looking at buying a 99 integra with a B18c1. My understanding is that motor is a NON-Vtec motor? meaning it would be LS, correct? Now, when people refer to LS/vtec motors, are they saying an original LS motor that had vtec added to it? what exactly does LS/vtec mean? I also thought a B18c1 was a GSR motor...is it? What exactly does GSR mean? Are GSRs non-vtec? I'm sorry for the newbie questions, and I promise I used the search button looking for answers but couldn't quite find something solid. Thank you for any help.

For the gen 3s:

B18C1 = USDM GSR Engine (VTEC)
B18C5 = USDM ITR Engine (VTEC)
B18B1 = USDM RS, LS, GS engine (non-VTEC)

An LS/VTEC is a combination of the LS block with the head from a VTEC engine.

any b18c is a gsr (or type r but dont concern yourself with that)
a B18B is an ls.

LS and GSR are different trim levels, the only major difference is the engine

LS, RS, and GS are all the same thing, except for little things like alloy wheels or leather seats. most of the time theyre all just called LS cause thats the most common model.

now as far as VTEC, ALL GSRs have VTEC.

ALL LS's DONT HAVE VTEC

that is unless it was built for LSVTEC, ls-vtec is when you take the cylinder head off a VTEC motor (b18c or b16) and put it on a non vtec block like an LS

a 99 integra with a B18c1 is a GSR and it does have VTEC

(edit) or it could be an LS with a b18c1 engine swapped in.

yeah with most VTEC engines it will say VTEC right on the valve cover. unless it was shaved for for whatever reason, but thats not that common.

Here is the engine bay of the teg I am hoping to buy. I've seen it in person and it is engraved as a b18c1 but its in an LS teg...the seats are all cloth and what not. Is it a swap? It doesn't say Vtech on it or anything. [img][/img]

you actually read b18c1 on the block? thats an ls, unless they have a b18c1 block and an ls head

get the vin off the block and type it in carfax and it will tell you for free what model it is or came from, for free. also it isnt a bad idea to use the carfax to verify the car's history. as far as you other question i have no idea, but it wouldnt make sense to use a gsr block with an ls head.

a ls head on a gsr block would basically act like an ls motor. thats not vtec. i would get to the bottom of this BEFORE you buy the car. you dont wanna buy the car then figure out its not what you paid for.

I dont know about problems but definatly loss of power... stock B18C1 (GSR) makes roughly 170 hp at the crank, a stock B18B makes roughly 140 hp at the crank

who knows what kind of power a GSR without VTEC would make

like someone said, check the vin number. type in the vin # that is on that green plate next to the header into carfax or here and we can tell you what motor it is. and tell us what is engraved to the right of that plate. if the vin has DC4 in it then it is ls/gs/rs motor. if it has DC2 in it then it is gsr/itr, most likely gsr.

if it says DC4 and has B18C1 engraved or DC2 with B18B, then he is fukcing with you. if it does say DC2 and has B18C1, then he put an ls head on a gsr block. and the car doesnt have the stock gsr strut bar. if it is not a gsr, you dont want to be paying the price of a gsr.

in black i think the switched to leather in 1999, but i could be wrong, and as far as i know tan has always been leather (for g3s) and i am unsure on the grey leather
