ok so i recently bought a 93 si vtec prelude that comes originally with a h22a1 but engine blew up 2 years ago and last owner put a jdm h22 longblock in it...asked him if he had receipts for it and said he lost them...so what should i do if a cop stops me and asks me why the numbers are not the same?? is there any way i can make this longblock legal?

 

AS LONG AS ITS THE SAME ENGINE TYPE...H22A OR WATEVER..ITS A JDM MOTOR...IM PRETTY SURE THEY CANT SAY ITS STOLEN CUZ ITS FROM JAPAN

 

actually all jdm motors are illegal to run on the street in your car. smog standards i guess?? sounds like california BS to me. thats wat a cop told me atleast

go to the state ref dude and they will tell u what to do. u just need the smog equipment.... exhaust manifold intake manifold and ecu.... i think that should be it....

how can i get bared if i dont have a receipt for that engine? block and head are jdm h22 all the rest are from the original h22a1 im even running the original h22a1 ecu...how much would they charge to ref the car?

 

where did u get the motor? you dont have a receipt or bill of sale? if u dont have anything in paper saying u bought it then i dont believe u can get it passed. u might just want to sell the h22 with a bill of sale to someone and buy a new one with paper work =P

i bought the car with the car in it.....

question...how about i tell the guy who sold me the car to give me a bill of sale for the engine ??? would that work....im not worried about smog or anything like that...the only thing im worried is that a cop stops me and tells me that the engine is stolen or something like that...

 

yea dude that might work... just hit up the guy u bought the car from and make a bill of sale make sure he puts the vin# and year of the motor and such... more details the better

 

I stumbled upon this thread and find this very good advice. I have a stock LS motor which i overhauled from my own car and i plan to sell it. however, I am not sure how to protect myself for any in the future once it's sold. My friend told me a bill of sale might not hold up as effectively as everyone thinks in court, so I am lost. any advice would be great. thanks!

 

I got stopped with a jdm b16 in my ef.they sent me to state ref and took my car.i just paid the fine never went to ref and got my car back out the impound.They didnt car if it was jdm or not.Now if the vin # was scratched off or tampered with thats nother story I heard they will take the car and crush it now in L.A

 

First you can bar a car with a jdm motor in it. Its not illegal. You must have all smog items or carb parts on it at the time. The motor must not be older then the car and has to be newer. And the motor must be the same obd as the car. Or you have to rewire the car to the same obd as the newer motor so they can read the computer at smog.

Your best bet is to have the guy put the new motor s/n on the bill of sale as with a copy of his d/l.

I just sold the motor out my gsr to someone and I had to do the same.
