Can you mount your rear bars like this???

The way I read the rules the rear bars must be mounted to plates. The plates can be boxed and a chassis stiffeneing bar can be installed inbetween the boxed mount points.

you can yes.......should you? Not in my opinon. Some rules packages allow mounting like that while many others do not. Just depends on what series it's for or personal use.

I sure wouldn't do that though.

for nasa (and probably for scca) no. the down tubes are to contact the chassis at a box or plate. not a tube.

I'm not a drag guy, but wouldn't that be a legal NHRA cage?

Nope (for NASA). Diagonal in the main hoop does have to be one piece though. The "suggested" cage diagram for SCCA cars does have the harness bar as one piece with the diagonal split, but the NASA design is also acceptable.

Technically yes. But if it was designed for NHRA, it wouldn't have the diagonal.

I hate that design. **** poor engineering. Never load a critical tube like that in a bending. It will crush that tube and then rip it off the chassis

There is nothing wrong with those welds. I might run a little more wire speed, but there is nothing wrong with those welds. Tiny welds are for show.
