D16y7 Mini Me or B18a ?
im faced with a decision im finding hard to make, looking for some pro's and con's as well as EDUCATED opinions. I have a d16y7 in my car now with almost 400k on it, and i have a b18a with almost 180k on it, i would be rebuilding either one for the project but for the b18a i would need tranny, clutch, dist and a few other parts just to make it a complete engine/tranny. I would be doing a mini me swap on the y7 shortly after its rebuilt and event boost it. the B18 would be stock for awhile.
How much power are you looking to get from the setup? If your going to rebuild either one, I would go with the D16. Low cost, Not as many problems. You can get some pretty good power from a boosted D16. If you have the money go with the B18, but instead of buying the trans and all the parts you need for the B18, you could be getting the turbo setup for the D16. A boosted D16 will make you fast now
, a B18 is a good start for more power in the future.

400k is alot of miles...i would rebuild it before i even thought of doing a mini-me. just the thought of it will make that engine explode. lol and a boosted d16y7 mini-me will make a lot of compression and there is a good chance of it damaging your engine...even if it is built. and with the b18a, you are faced with more problems. the fact that your obd0 engine is going into a obd2 car. this means you have to buy a jumper harness or rewire it to work. IMO...put the b18a in there and keep it stock for now...then save up for boost.

You can always keep the y7 head on the D16. Have you ever had a turbo D16 before? Just because its a turbo d16 does not mean the engine will explode. A boosted D16 is fun
High compression the turbo will just spool quicker. It wont damage the engine, It all depends on the tune and he said he was going to rebuild either engine he choose. You can always get Low comp. pistons..

i would be rebuilding either engine b4 the swap, i am aware of some of the work involved with the B18a but have someone to do it for me. what are some numbers ppl are pulling from boosted D's? and does anyone know the stock hp for the b18a? im kinda leaning toward keeping the D for reliability and saving some money. maybe putting in a B later on down the road.

go look at youtube at d16 turbo and find out there. there are alot of videos...although most of them are d16z6's and d16y8's. and do the single cam turbo for now...and in the mean time...build the b18a.

i'm almost doing the same thing. my car has a d16z6 in it right now..money is tight.. and i'm rebuilding a b18a to swap in.
nothing makes me feel better than to tell someone i'm rebuilding my future turbo motor
can't wait to get it in.
just make sure you get some ARP rod bolts if you want to safely even rev to redline, and a machine shop to help you with that and plastic gauge advice.
go foor the rebuilt b18a!! so much more potential and you won't regret it

How much power you looking to get from the build? If you want something that your gonna keep building then go with the B18. But people with just a t25 just with stock block can pull in about 200, all depends on your tune. Built d series can get you in the 300-400 range depending on your turbo setup/tune. A boosted D is fun
Give it a try you'll like it It all depends on what you want power wise or how you want your setup to be.
