which to boost: b18 a/b or d16 z/y
i am in the process of building a "race" car and want to throw a boosted motor into my em1 (00 si) shell....i am looking for a good balance of speed and relability.....so im considering putting some forged internal's in a sohc or just buying a b18 a/b and putting it in.......either will be boosted.....i already have everthing i need except turbo/mani/d.p....from my old setup....which would be a better choice....all suggestions appreciated....only looking for around 220-240whp....and which would be the easiest swap?
thank's for any help

Id say buy a cheap b18b/a1 swap.
Throw that in, slap on a nice turbo, and some fuel managment, get some nice tuning, and it can easily make 240whp on stock internals
This is what I am going for.
The z6 also would be a good choice, you wouldn't be able to make as much power as an LS motor on stock internals, but if you build the motor you have room for improvement for more power.

either choice would be good, but if your gonna build the z6 with forged internals, i would go with that instead,it ll be more realiable and you ll still be able to achive your goals and more.now building the b18 with forged internals would be the best choice,if you can afford it.

I was running a stock D16Y7 motor and putting out 200whp with it.. I would go with a LS motor though, It can handle more power stock and is eaiser to obtain your target hp..

yeah, I've read that you can obtain those HP figures out of a B18b with just the turbo alone. You wouldn't even need to break into the engine. I'd say that for the cost, that'd be the way to go.

B18a/b1's can be found in the classifieds sometimes. I don't know if any place online sells them, but even if they did your best bet would be classifieds because it would be cheaper.
B18a/b1's are cheap, come dime a dozen, and on a stock motor turbocharged can give you a real quick street car.
Good thing I came along my 97 Integra LS, too bad it was OBD2 though, but I will convert to OBD1 before going turbo anyway. GL.
