Which intake manifold is better the b16a or the b16b?
i have a b16a engine with a 5zigen exhaust manifold, decat and catback, i also have civic type r cams in my b16a and i was thinking about changing my intake manifold from a b16a intake manifold to a civic type r (b16b) intake manifold. Im just looking for some opinions on which intake manifold would be better to run with? is the civic type r intake manifold better than the b16a?
In theory the CTR intake manifold is better because it has a larger plenum and shorter fatter runners for high rpm power. This is why it's standard on the B16B/B18C6/5-R - they are more track-bred engines designed to sustain near-redline rpms during racing.
On a stock B16A I've actually seen a CTR/ITR IM hurt the overall power output/torque on dyno charts. The peak whp gained maybe +2, but the entire area under the curve/overall power/torque output suffered because of the shorter, fatter runners. For a daily driven street car it would have actually been worse off.
Since you have cams it's hard to say for sure. Since they're CTR cams then logic would say add the matching IM too, but it might not work that way since yo also don't have the same head or factory polish/mild porting too.
Bottom line?
The CTR/ITR manifold is "better" for sure, but it might not make the huge impact many people expect on a B16A engine.

yeah so your saying id get more top end power but i would be sacrificing mid range power and torque?
so in turn i could actually make the car slower by adding the ctr intake mani? i also have the ctr throttle body there as well. sorry i forgot to mention that its a jdm b16a with a carbon fibre j's racing induction kit if that makes any difference?

Well you could always install the CTR/ITR manifold and head back to the rolling road and do a comparison.

I'm sure it will probably net some top-end gains, but like I said the low/midrange is uncertain.

suppose thats the only way im actually gonna know! i want a bit more top end power as ive plenty of bottom end power for a na b16a due to the j's racing kit, its top notch! ill put it on the weekend and book it in for a rolling road, see how she does! lol im trying to get into the 190's and keep it na of course
