Default ignition / mis firing problem

I did a few searches and it seemed like my dizzy may need replacing but I am going to post this here to see if anyone may have had the same issue and give me tips / advice on how to fix it.

96 integra LS

Yesterday my CEL came on and it is now running in limp mode. When the car rev up to 3 - 4 it won't go higher and RPM just goes down immediatetly to zero and the car would die. It would start right up after it dies for a few second but it would die again if I tried to rev past 3 - 4k.

I took it to autozone and the codes stated " ignition / misfire " I will post the codes in a little bit ( I have them somewhere in my notebook ).

I changed the spark plugs and switch a main relay from my other integra (also the ECU), and the issue remains...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds to me like a timing problem... When was the last time the cars timing belt was replaced?

How would I check if it is the timing belt? Start fine with no problem and the belt looks good.

your timing still may need to be adjusted, even though the belts look fine. if you have a timing light shoot that down at the timing belt and adjust as needed, i am currently haveing a similar problem but my timing is spot on. i am getting a rough idle after i have given it a little gas.

i hope that helps a little

I agree, even tho the belt may seem fine its just not timed right with the ignition and everything else.

Once your belt is timed right, you shouldnt have anymore problems

It was driving perfect just a couple days ago and its a bone stock engine with no mod other than an intake. Could the timing have jumped? It starts and runs perfect except for being in limp mode (no idling problems or running rough)...

I will have my bro look at it this weekend but any other possibilities out there that may cause this issue?

Thanks

Check the cam sprockets to make sure the belt didn't jump and also check the timing on the crank. When was the last time you did a tune up? I have a friend that is having surging issues in his SI and it ended up being the plugs and wires...just a thought.
