Compression Test/Leak Down Test on swap
Is it possible to conduct a compression test on an engine if it is NOT installed in the car? I'm looking to buy a swap off ebay from this dude and he claims the engine is in good working order. After purchasing the engine, I get 5 days to decide if I want it or not (ebay will not release me money to him prior to the 5 days). Sadly, I will not have the time to install the swap in those 5 days, so Im wondering if there is any way to conduct a compression test, as well as a leak down test with out actually having the engine in my car. I dont really care about exact values, as long as the values are the same across the board.
By the way, the seller's real name is James Walls. Has anyone had experience with this guy? Im just scared of getting ripped off.
(ps- yes, i have searched on HT, and have not found anything in regards to being able to do the tests on an uninstalled engine)

Any further steps? what in the world is a clutch housing? As far as I am aware, the starter and tranny are part of the swap. Sorry if this sounds a little stupid on my part, but its all new to me.
The more help I can get, the better!
Thanks guys

If the tranny is hooked up to the motor with a starter then just hook a battery to the starter. Power to power, ground anywhere on the trans/starter, tap another power to the little tab. And there you go it will turn over.
