Favorite DIY projects
So I have read lots of "What is your favorite bolt on", "Best bang for the buck" topics of late. What I would like to know is what is everyones favorite DIY projects. Im especially interested in this particular topic because Im in school full time and don't always have the spare cash laying arround. The only one that I have done to my 5th gen as of yet is to remove the lower half of my air box, zip tie on the air filter and angle it for some cooler air. Didn't measure much of a change on my butt dyno, but my ear dyno sure liked it. Any one else have a good project????
The 2 I did
Clear Turn Signals
Black Housing Headlights
Also, painting the calipers is also a good one

Something cool I did was replace my destroyed power antenna with one of those VW-style roof antennaes(sp?). The fender actually matches it pretty damn good, plus I had that antenna kicking around my basement forever.
Installing tweeters was a nice mod I did, threw some cheap ones in the stock location w/ the "crossover" filters. Nice clear sound is always a plus.
Relocating the battery to the back was a fun lil mod, cleaned up the bay 10x better. Used a breaker in the back, 2ga wire to the front works fine for me.
Like above, valvecover mod is nice. Good time to get creative. Nice time to do the intake/strut brace if they're scratched up too.
Mild wire tuck, did that when I was putting my lip on (had the bumper off anyway). Tucked my HID ballasts and other misc. wiring neatly, also tucked the engine harness as much as I could (injector plugs, dist. wiring, shocktower wiring, etc).
Seat reupholstery, thats gonna be a new one (hopefully this week). Pre-fabbed seat covers replacing the stock cloth (my interior never matched since I got the car
).
Brake calipers, either painting them or even trying to clean them up (depending on how crappy they are).
Haha, almost anything can be a DIY. depends on how far you're willing to go (and how comfortable you are doing it).

Hey, Lets see the results of some of your wire tucking. I was thinking of doing this myself. Can you give us a synopsis of how it went for you, trouble areas, supplys you used etc?
Well, an example of what we did on a friend's EF/EG and my own car.
-With the fenders off (or fenderliners and front wheels removed), front bumper removed (almost a must).
-You pull all the wiring back into the cabin or inner fender, as far as you can go. Label/take notes of what goes where NOW. Thank urself later.
-Engine bay wiring, passenger side, connectors go behind/under the fusebox (there is a lot of slack in the harness). Or, you pull the connectors into the cabin (both sides), looks the cleanest when you're done but will be a PITA if you ever have to pull the harness off.
-Once you pull the fender-side harnesses back, plot a path to go to the front of the car by going into the fender/framerail. Using extra loom/ rubber hose for routing the hoses helps here.
-Find a decent location for the 2 main grounds on each side, they look like 2 white/grey boxes with a bunch of black wires going in. Sand down the contact area and bolt it up.
-Mount your HID ballasts, horns, etc... and mock the connections up.
-Secure your wiring with wire-ties (the ones you can bolt down = teh ****).
-Test everything out before bolting your stuff back up and you should be golden.
And that is a quick mild wiretuck in a nutshell, hope that helps some out.
PS. I'll try and snap some pics of my bay when I get a chance, trying to find some of that nylon braided wireloom and shrinkwrap this weekend locally. Should look pretty nice when I'm done (yes, I'm also planning on getting enough to do the engine harness where visible).

I would love to see your pics of the engine bay. Has anyone made a diy intakes? I would really love to see more pics of your mods for my own modivation and for others to gain ideas from your own experiences. Lets share!!!
mine is probably overlooked, but detailing my car. getting rid of swirls and surface scratches is pretty rewarding. and when i get around to it, so will be touch-up painting.
DarkBB4, that is oneof the coolest websites I have ever seen. thank you so much for posting it. I wish there was one for the fifth gens

I like the DIY 100 Dollar Rattle Can Pimp Job.
From the Valve Cover to the Front Lip, paint everything the same color, glossy black, and everything goes very nice togther, its not hard at all, and is pretty cheap to do on your own.
