What is the best way to break in a rebuilt motor on the street. On Guam, so "breaking in on the dyno" is out of the question.
Searched and this is what I'm clear on so far.
-Fill with non detergent, non synthetic oil.
-Crank to build pressure.
-Start, let idle, and check for leaks.
-Then, take it to the street and???
Can someone explain how exactly to drive it? How much throttle and rpm should I be on?
Thanks. Rebuilt GSR btw.

usually to break in my motor, i rev to 9000 and drop the clutch. If its gonna break.. itll break then.
j/k.. There is lots of division atleast within the set of people i know about what to do in this case. I generally baby the car for about 500 miles, no higher than 4k, then change the oil, looking for metal. If its clear, go for it. I feel the statement i made above about revving to 9000 is off the mark, but really there is some truth to it. It doesn't take too long for the rings to seat fully. You will know within the first few miles if they have not, by the copious amounts of blue smoke your car will blow. There isnt really a "prescribed" method so much as there are opinions that people have. The moral of the story is you should do what makes you comfortable given the amount of money you spent on the job.. good luck
