Is OBDI legal in the states???

Default Is OBDI legal in the states???

I'm ignorant...someone told me that it wasn't. Need to clear this up.

OBDI is legal on OBDI cars...anything later must use the later OBD system(OBDIIv1, or OBDIIv2), anything earlier must have all emission parts upgraded to OBDI to make OBDI legal.

OBDI is legal on OBDI cars...anything later must use the later OBD system(OBDIIv1, or OBDIIv2), anything earlier must have all emission parts upgraded to OBDI to make OBDI legal.
Note:

If your state does not concern itself with such things, you have nothing to worry about.

Are you sure? I thought they were exempted. They cannot force consumers to pay for something the dealer did not have.. right? (as far as emmisions)

An importer here in CA told me that the OBDI on a 98+ JDM Honda ITR was not legal...

In CA that is not legal if it's going into a car that came with OBD-II from the factory.

If it's going in a OBD-I car, you're good to go.

do you have a link to the law?
94-95 = OBD-I
96+BD-II

If your car is a 94-95 then you can convert the JDM ITR motor to OBD-I.

The problem might be that JDM ECU's are not equivalent to USDM spec, therefore illegal.
