Default Engine Problem that i cant figure out, help please!

well i recently swapped a d16z6 in my 89 civic hatch

on the interstate today it died on me. so i started it again while i was coasting and then i started hearing this rattling and clanking sound under the hood and my car started to over heat and run rough, then i lost complete power and it bogged down and died

I noticed the timing was off so i redid the timing and it started up but still a clanking sound and some rattling, so i checked the valve adjustment and it was all correct, and i looked at my timing again and somehow it managed to be way off again. im not sure whats goin on? or if maybe im about to throw a rod,

Any help would be appreciated alot! thank you

You don't have enough tension on the belt, adjust the tensioner pulley and spring!

the belt is plenty tense enough, i could get the belt barely on when the tensioner was loosened, then i tightened it, im just wondering if something siezed up like the water pump that would cause clanking and rattling? i cant figure out what that sound is, and i got the timing on it perfect again, and it hasnt adjusted again but i sitll have the clanking sound

you could try disconnecting the upper radiator hose and turning the motor on (briefly) to see if the pump is working.

also the pump should be leaking out of the "bleed" holes if its bad or going bad

Did you check for holes in the block, sounds like you have more than and bad belt.
