95 distributor work in a 96 civic?
I had a diagnostic done on my 96 civic ( wouldn't start. ) They told me it's the distributor. My friend gave me the distributor from a 95 - will this work? any pointers on putting it in?

The housings are all the same, so they will all bolt up to your cylinder head. However, I'm not sure is there is a difference between the plugs for obd2a and obd2b. The 96-98 distributors will definitely work.

a diagnostic does not yield a bad distributor. there is something more specific wrong with the dizzy. what was the code that was found?
if its not starting, i would begin with the coil, which you can take out of the 95 dizzy and put in the 96 dizzy. its not that hard, youll just have to make sure not to break the rotor screw off. hope this helps
I did not get that info from the shop, and they might be full of ****. I was driving it around, really low on gas, and then the next morning it wouldn't start. They actually told me that I flooded the distributor. I am not sure if that is even possible, to get gas in the distributor(?)
Thanks for answering, and I'd appreciate anything else anyone can tell me.

Maybe you're out of gas.

Sounds like the coil.
Get it fixed and then tell the guys at the shop who diagnosed your car that they were right. Tell them that there was gas all over the distributor because your VTAK was hitting too hard and the gas line inside the distributor busted a nut, and that was the reason why your car died. So you had to get a brand new distributor and replaced the gas line.

His car wont start. There's 100 possible causes.
Take it to a reputable shop.</TD></TR></TABLE>
well, since the shop pointed out the dizzy as being the issue, i would assume that they looked elsewhere for the more obvious things. if they found the dizzy to be faulty, then there would be the issue. instead of going out and buying a dizzy for 400 bucks this dude could spend 50 and just get a coil.

Normally I would listen to a shop's diagnosis, but when they tell you that the distributor is "flooded", I don't know if I could take anything they say seriously.
You can find a used distributor for under $100. There are usually some on eBay.
