I read somewhere that a gsr shifter has a bend in it and sits closer to the drivers hand. I did however do some searching and couldn't find a whole lot on the deal. I have a 99 civic ex so would it bolt right up to my linkage? Has anyone done this before and could tell a difference compared to the other shifter? Is it shorter by anychance?

do you understand what a "short shifter" implies?

for some reason people think it means the lever itself is lower...

 

B+M Short shifter, dual bend, reduces the throw a bunch, and they are only like $50 new. Unless you have a GSR one already, just buy a new one.

 

Well yeah i know what a short shifter implies. It creates quicker shifting times or shifting throws compared to stock.

 

the dual bends arent only in gsrs. i got one out of a regular ls. not sure on the year but i'm sure it wasn't a gsr.

 

GSR and LS shifters are the same. And yes they would fit in a civic, thats why they sell Short Shifters universal for Integras 94+ and it fits civics 92+ as well.

 

i wasn't being a smartass, a lot of people really believe that the height of the shifter is just shorter.

i think the del sol shifter has the shortest throws, but it is also very short in height so it would be a further reach.

Right. I just bought a dual bend Skunk2 for my '96 civic and it's the exact same thing I put in my old Integra GSR.

Just so people know, the GSR shifter does NOT "bolt-on" to the civic shift linkage on a d-series motor. You need a b-series shift linkage / motor.

Why doesn't it work? Wanna elaborate a bit more? Maybe explain why the people that sell them state they fit both civic and teg's but apparently don't?

The shifter does. Theres two parts. A shift is the rod that sticks out into the shift ****. The shift linkage is the horizontal rod that connects the shifter to the tranny. The linkage is different but not the shifter. You don't need a motor for a GSR shifter to fit on a civic.

Angles, leverage. Think of a socket wrench you stick a pipe on it to extend it to make more torque but you have to move more to turn the bolt. Use that concept and your imagination. Or go hold a short shifter and a normal shifter next to each other.

So moving on, has anyone ever had an experience with one? Even though it's stock, it has to be better than a straight shifter out of my civic right?

 

actually i think there are some differences between the shifters. because with my dual bend out of the integra i had to modify the bottom of it to make it fit in the linkage. it was a little bit wider than the one had before.

if you use the integra shifter then youll need an b-series integra shift linkage. the jdm civic, del sol vtec, civic si b-series shift linkage wont work with an integra shifter unless modified.

Again can you please explain why you need teg linkage to use a teg shifter. Does this shifter not work on d series linkage and if not explain to us all why/

 

the base of the integra shifter that bolts to the shift linkage is about an inch wider at the base than the civic shifter. so integra shifter wont work unless you bend out the civic shift linkage.
