HELP!! Wheel shake = AUTO Transmission problem??
I bought my girl a 1994 Honda Accord Wagon EX Automatic and it has been as reliable as any honda or acura I have ever owned.
However, a nightmare has begun for us that has just cost me alot of money in labor for work that your average joe cant do. Mostly alignment and ball joint pressing
It all started with me going to buy 4 new tires and an alignment for her car. We took it there and the camber was way out and needed a camber correction upper ball joint installed. This was installed, alignment was done and everything was in spec. About 2000 miles later there was a shake in the passenger side under acceleration only. Took it back to get a tire balance and they said outer tie rod was bad so I replaced that myself. It still shook after having alignment put back into spec.
We had Honda take a look at it and surprisingly they said the rack, and all ball joints and suspension was still good. Check for a bent rim and have tires rebalanced. I lifted the car and found a bent rim, went to junkyard and got another that was not bent and had all tires replaced and new ones balanced all not at my expense due to some great protection plan i bought with the tires.
Still shook, it was starting to baffle the tire store so they put someone in the driver seat lifted the car and pressed the gas. Low and behold, it looks like the axel is shaking. The guy said it was probably the inner seal on the tranny which would require me to take the tranny apart. Since they dont do tranny work or refer to get tranny work done I want to believe them but have just never heard of something in a honda tranny causing such a bad shake. Can anyone confirm that this is possible?

I had a similar problem (vibration on acceleration only), but suspected the inner CV joint on the driver side. I changed the axle/joint and that solved the problem. I can't imagine a "seal" would cause this, maybe a bearing, but not a seal...
yup, it was the passenger side axel. After loads of fun a bent inner boot was the culprit. The girl is so happy. Sux though cause I almost had her talked into an H22 w/ auto tranny. They are about $1000 for the combo and it would have been fun to have an H22 in a wagon.
