Boosting a 96 honda. Need timing help!

Default Boosting a 96 honda. Need timing help!

I am getting ready to help a friend put a turbo kit on his 1996 Honda Civic EX. It is all stock. It will be boosting only 7lbs. We have everything to do the kit but I have some timing questions.
1. Should we use a controler to retard timing only under boost or just retard it via the dizzy and retard it from the get go???
2. Where should the total timing be roughly???

This one is kinda off topic but what can this motor handle boost wise in stock form???

Sorry for the questions guys. I am not new to the turbo word... just to the honda turbo world. Lol. I have a boosted 4 banger mustang so I have some idea on what needs to be done. Just have those couple of questions.

1.usually a proper EMS is preferred and will yeild more power, but dyno tuning is required.
2. depends on the tune.
3. assuming you have the typical t3/t4 57 trim tuned properly 10psi easy.

So is it possible to use an MSD btm(boost timing master) to pull timing during boost. Since it will only be running 7lbs it won't really need that much timing pulled. He also got 260cc injectors and and a boost referenced fuel pressure reg. We should be able to control fuel good enough with that. Where is a good place to start on the timing???? Just a ball park figure.

No one can help just a little bit??? We are not trying to make a race car. Mainly right now just trying to keep out of detination.

Yes the BTM will work but in todays Honda world that is kind of obsolete, if you do go that route get a VAFC or something like that and a wideband, I highly doubt a FPR alone is going to do the trick.

then you'll be fine with that setup, just make sure to upgrade the factory fuel pump to a high pressure unit from walbro.

What does vafc stand for. Sorry I am new to hondas. I knew the BTM would be a little out dated but we have one and figured we'd try it out. And i'll let him know to get a better fuel pump. I am trying to get him to get a wideband but he's short on cash a little bit. I have one in the mustang and its a life saver. Sorry for the stupid questions guys. I'm learning still.

1 deg. per psi should be safe, as you stated its just a starting point.

Well what are some of the cheeper timing and fuel controllers out there??? What would you guys recomend for doing this right the first time???

vafc is a piggy back by apexi i think around $300. it's like a band-aide fix. honestly, to do it right the first time, chipping the ecu and dyno tuning would be the right way/most reliable. i'm boosting my car right now and everyone says stay away from piggy backs. a local dyno is installing the chip and dyno tuning everything for me, for like $400. idk what you guys have out in CO, but maybe you can make some calls to see what they offer.
