H22 intake valve seals on exhaust side?
A machinist placed the intake valve seals on the exhaust side of my H22 head. I only had him do the #4 cylinder, because of a smoking problem in that cylinder. When I got to the shop I inspected the head and noticed that the intake seals were on the exhaust side. I said something to him about it, and he said "those colored springs don't mean ****". Well I went with his word, even though my heart told me to change them.
I swapped in another block and my original smoking problem is gone. Now when I start the car up and rip through the gears it doesn't smoke. About the 4th time ripping through the gears she throws alot of smoke at high rpms, and leaves a nice trail until you shut it off, and let it cool back down. Then the sequence is repeated. I'm betting that those intake seals on the exhaust side of cylinder #4 are the cause of this problem. Anyone?
