engine mods
what are some other engine mods i can do to my car thats not gonna cost a ton of money to install, i got intake, headers and exhaust now looking to add some more to the engine before i work on the appearance
get a cam. buddy club makes the racing spec IV which are like 964 bucks according to pwjdm
i think greddy or someone makes a cam for our cars now. and its way cheaper and u can use stock valvetrain with no problem.

YUP! definately the reflash before anything else cause once you get those cams you are gonna need the reflash anyway. you can get away for now without the reflash but once you go deeper into modding your engine the more you are gonna need to upgrade your ecu. Kpro would be even better for the whole cam and valvetrain upgrade but since they dont make that for our cars just yet (from what i know of) then the reflash would work just fine meanwhile. also, if you just get two cams and noting else you are not gonna make much more power. there is no point in getting just the cams and not any valvetrain components ie (springs, retainers, valves and cam gears). if you dont uprade those things as well you are gonna be making your valvtrain work overtime cause it was not made for after market cams and eventually it will give in. dont go with piggybacks either. ive seen the results and they are not that great. besides, those dont really do "too much" cause our cars already come with an employed MAF sensor to compensate for the increase if air into the engine that way it wont run too lean or too rich so therefor a piggy back wouldnt do too much unless you want to advance your v-tec engagement. you can never go wrong with the reflash. another thing you can do for now to make a little more power to the wheels is get a pulley set. you cant go wrong with that either. consider getting a better brand spark plug even though the ones you have now are still good. thats always a plus. you are taking in more air and dispursing more air more rapidly than what the stock intake and header did so now that you have that increase in air flow throughout your engine it would be wise to get a plug that puts out a good powerful spark without raising the internal temp. trust me, you will feel the difference. best plug to go with is NGK Iridium. alot of people question as to why changing out the stock plugs is good and i always say that if you upgrade your motor then why not the plugs as well?!

Let me make sure i got all of this:
springs, retainers, valves, cams, and cam gears ? Also, pulleys? All of these will both boost your power and insure that your engine won't poop?
When do you think the K-Pro will be coming out? And what will the difference be from the current Hondata system currently available?

I see alot of you guys suggesting cams and valvetrain mods without mentioning that the only tuning options are piggybacks (and the car would need to be tuned). That starts tacking on quite a few $$$ so don't forget to factor the cost of an AEM FI-C or Greddy E-Manage and several hours with a tuner.
I recommend enjoying your bolt-ons and getting a reflash.

so how do we think this AEM model stacks up against Hondata's $1,000 gem that everyone raves about. An the K-pro? Potential release dates, price, benefits compared to the rest?

its in the works right now, but its not going to be called k-pro.
there was a thread about this before.

your engine wont poop "if" you have it tuned right and efficiently. the difference from k-pro and the reflash from what ive seen and noticed is that the reflash is pretty much for mods such as bolt ons and rich or lean A/F ratios. BUT its always best to get the reflash "FIRST" before moding your engine.

nobody was recomending valvetrain components. it was simply a point being said. read it again. but i would go with the reflash and bolt ons first as well.

Hondata recommends at least an intake or exhaust or the reflash will actually lose power

go with the reflash, stick with your bolt-ons
remember too that the reflash is just a static tune; setup for bolt-on mods and has no parameters that can be changed. it is what it is.

Thanks guys. You have yet again quenched my thirst for knowledge, temporarily of course:
I remember my boss telling me that he just had a "computer chip" put in to his 5-series beemer which he claims gave him somewhere around 80 more hp. Not sure if it was to the wheels are not but it is still an a**load of additional power. I realize that gains that large are nearly impossible to achieve with our ridiculously efficient "4 bangers", actually i hate that term, but is this reflash or k-pro the same? It sounds like only the timing will be changed but no actual hp gains. I WANT A CHIP DAMMIT.
What say you?

From what I understand, K-pro (or whatever the k20z3's version will be called) is going to be tuneable and adjustable, just like the old K-pro was. It is nothing like the reflash, which is just tuned by Hondata for certain bolt-ons (like IT GUY said). Hondata has made the new "K-pro" it's number one priority and purchased 2 Si's to make it happen. So...hopefully we don't have to wait much longer.

oops, my bad, yeah, i remember reading that a minimum of an intake or header or both was highly recomended "before" installing the reflash. my bad for leaving that out. but i was trying to focus on the valvetrain topic in a way saying that if he goes that route with the valvetrain then get the relflash first and then i got my words jacked up. thanks for the call out.

well, i have seen the cams as much as 1,000 for two, 300 for the spring set for all 16 valves, 200 for cam gears, 300 for set of valves then on top of that you gotta pay for labor and tunning....... so there you go. its not cheap and it sucks to pay alot.

Now what kind of improvements will all of that get me?

ok, well, personally i wouldnt know "exact" hp and tq gains on a k series motor BUT i do know that just like on a B series you can up your redline to 9k. and get around 25-30 hp roughly (maybe a little more) with proper tunning as well. and if you get a port and polish too then you would be making more than that, and thats a given! but if you go the port and polish route with the valvetrain upgrade then you gotta get an aftermarket intake manifold (high flow) and raise the fuel pressure. one of my freinds put aftermarket cams and nothing else upgraded and he didnt get much out of it. he said he felt very little gain. i took my car to get a dyno tune and they told me there as well that the reflash isnt gonna work very good with stage 1 or 2 cams. they dyno rsx-s's and ep3's which have k-pro available for their motors and they said it worked great. i would take their word for it and just wait till k-pro or a-like hondata product comes out for our cars. hope this helps for you. and for anyone else that reads this and disagrees let me know so i can get things straight
