Best Sound Quality Amp for the Money?
I am budgeting around $300-400 to spend on an amp.
Looking at a four channel amp to drive two 6.5 components for the front and two 6x9's in the back in my Integra GSR Sedan.
Would like to be able to fit the amp underneath the front passenger seat.
I am using an Alpine CDA7892 head unit.
I am considering the Alpine MRVF540 amplifier 80wx4, 105dB S/N ratio
Any others? - Good online sources?

I personally don't like Alpine amps.
Only amps I really would buy are Forgate, Phoenix Gold , McIntosh, Soundstream.
I like MTX too.
For 300-400 you could get a fosgate with a build in crossover... I think you can anyway....

What don't you like about Alpine amps?
What are the specs for the Fosgate amps? Why do you prefer them?
I know in home audio, the capacitance of the system and how it is utilized can determine the sound quality and performance to a large degree. Also the quality of the power supply as well.
I am not too familiar with the basics of car amplifiers. How do they differ from home audio?

I've used a Alpine V12 amps to power my front components and rear speakers for years w/o any problems on my cars for my subs I use PPI/Precision power on one car and Phoenix Gold on another car... haven't had a problem w/ any of these... I haven't been in the market for car audio in years so I couldn't comment on any current model numbers or prices sorry...
Joeg26,
the fosgate amps now have a second recommendation. The power series have beautiful butterworth crossovers at 24db/octave and also have a variable bass boost centered at 45hz which helps in tuning the audio system.
Their 4 channel amps specifically have seperate front and rear gains, and variable boost on the rear channels. Fosgate power is clean, and as rated (some people say underrated because they are overexposed to BS ratings from sony and such)
I recently purchased a Power 400.4 , yeilding 50x4 @ 4 Ohm with low THD. Optionally, you can sacrifice some thd and get 100x4 @ 2 ohm, or bridge it for subs (but why..this amp is great for components)
Other amps I have lots of respect for include alpine, which have the lowest THD ratings i've seen for the 4 channel amps, no idea about crossover slope though.
Coles Notes: Clean, Strong Power, Great Quality, 4 Gauge Power/12 Gauge speaker inputs and nice crossovers/subsonic filters.
A++
