blew new turbo due to failed oil pump bad day at dyno
Today was supposed to be a good day at the dyno and turned out bad, after puting in a new sc71 and new injectors over the winter i decided to go to the dyno to retune my car to have it allset for when test and tune sessions started. After a few base runs of 440hp on low boost i noticed the car having a hard time starting and runing
My boy noticed that my turbo wasnt spining when we checked it out it was siezed first issue got it home took the line out cranked it over to see if the line had no oil press, oil gauge showed no oil press, i had checked the guage several times on the dyno between runs it had good oil press i think i blew the oil pump on last run hope block is not f ed up, after a little research today learned it could of been due to crank pulley its a ctr
Please pray for me if the damage is bad it may be done for the season due to funds being needed to go towards a wedding this year
unless i call it off then i still might not be able to race due to my fiance killing me

We've been there before, broke an oil pump, killed the turbo, trashed the crankshaft.. Makes for a crappy day..
Good luck on your fiance not killing you..

There is always a reason why the pump failed, lots of use stock pumps, sometimes for more then a season...Usually improper balancing,no dampner, sometimes even bouncing off the rev limit for long periods of time can do it...

thats shitty, i heard what happened from manny yesterday. let me know if you guys need something, tons of spare stuff laying around.

The CTR pulley you guys are using is only a single pulley right? I believe they do not have dampening material in them? That could be you issue if you have some vibrations going on. Might want to switch to a ATI unit, we have seen this fix a bunch of broken oil pump problems. Good luck, hope everything is ok for you. Never fun
to hurt engine parts.

I was in the same position as you, wedding and all. Lets just say I got married and killed another oil pump with a fluidmpr the next fall - I am kind of wondering if my cheap clutch could be throwing of the balance?

a little of all the above by the way tore the block apart gonna need all new bearings

if it makes you feel any better, I had an oil pump explode on the dyno.
We shut it down immedietly when we saw oil on the timing belt.
Took it all apart, and the oil pump was [freak]ed big time. Put on a new pump, and put it back together.. put new oil and drained it again..
It has been going strong ever since. I guess I was lucky!!
All due to a shitty aftermarket pulley. I had no idea they would cause something like that. Its gone now, back to stock for the rest of last season. Now I am searching for a good price on an ATI or Fluidampr!
good luck

i ran a ctr 1 rib pulley and on the dyno it blew my oil pump right in the middle of a pull and vtec stopped, car hit limiter and i looked at the oil pressure gauge and it read 0, i shut engine off and was lucky i didnt damage anything else. sorry to hear and good luck with your situation.

Been there done that man. Years ago when I use to street tune we had a car blow an oil pump, kill the GT37S turbo (sorry Mike
), spin bearings, etc. All due to a crank pulley
