this is for hpde's and time trials.
suggestions? the sparco is lighter...the bell has more open eye area

thanks for the help. i couldn't find the weight on the helmet...but knew it wasn't light. Sparco midatlantic is local to me and they have them in stock for 350...might have to test fit and purchase.

Bell M4 - large is 3lb, 14oz
I went with the HJC Si-12 at a weight of 2 lbs, 15oz for a large.
I'd go for the Sparco Spy, it's inexpensive because it's on sale, has the HANS clips, and is on sale from $700.

the guys at http://www.saferacer.com says it is 5-6lbs for a medium. How heavy is the Sparco?

That's the weight of the M4 Pro. The non-Pro version is heavier.
Lip, try both on before deciding. It's downright incredible how different two helmets can feel on your noggin, even within one make/manufacturer. The Bell BR1, M4, and K1 Sport all are completely different, as an example.

very difficult since there isn't a bell m-4 for me to try on. Mid Atlantic Trading is just a 30min drive.
I still have time...the time trial event i need it for is April 19th.
Jeff
PS....i also need a place to get a magnet piece for a car number. I just want say a 15"ish circle with I guess 8" numbers?

I would recommend the sparco. I just purchased one and i really like it. I think its a great value for 379 (HANS clips and all). The eye port is narrower but didn't seem to be something i couldn't get used to. It also has a lightweight balanced feel on my head (i wear a medium).
I'm not familiar with the Jersey area enough to know, but there's no generic race shop around?
For the magnetic numbers, search for "Magnetic" in the archived RR/AX forum, some good info there.

Wrong. We've weighed a bunch of helmets... http://www.racinghelmetguide.c....html
The Bell M4 is relatively light for a fiberglass helmet. M4 Pro is even lighter.
And Lip, take a look at the HJC helmets. Real light and high quality.

car is a roadster...big heat differences between a black helmet and a white helmet?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I have read from a few others that there is a difference. But then I've also heard from some close friends that there isn't a difference. You could always play it safe and go with white.
And Brett, thanks dude! I guess you probably know, but finding accurate weight comparisons is next to impossible.

Thank Brett and everyone else.
It was an easy decision. $350 cash and carry for the Sparco in black. Wonderful fit for my bowl head...love the helmet and the weight of it.
Thanks again everyone.
Now to look for the magnetic and new harness so i can put the old one in the passenger side.
