Sounds like you missed third gear one too many times. Call a trans shop or your local Honda dealer. I'd say the third gear cluster/syncro is shot. When mine was done under warranty , the total tab Honda ate was a little over $1000, parts and labor, and they replaced my entire 3rd gear assy.

if it costs that much, mind as well find a used tranny for like 450 and put it in yourself

It will be cheaper to just swap in another tranny. Look for any 92-00 civic EX (or 92-95 SI) tranny. A tranny rebuild is costly tho, but on the other hand, nothing beats a freshly rebuilt trans . See what you can find in your area.

Hell yeah. For $1000, you could have spares . Then you could build one, put one in the car, and have one for backup.

Agreed.

Yep! I've got a VX trans in the DD, an EX with fresh bearings in the "race car", an si sitting stand-by, and another EX needs a couple parts. Keep spares if you're hard on your stuff!

BTW, ever thought about stiffening up your motor mounts first before replacing a whole tranny?

A brand new GSR trans is over $1000 easy. I priced out a brand new ITR trans and Acura wants $1800.
