Default Head Issue

ok I pulled apart my head last night and the exhaust valves are caked with Gunga. the car had a definite oil consumption issue(valve seals). here lies my question....do i do new valves and have the head P&P or just get a brand new head. also what valves are you people with running?

I wouldn't spend the $300 if I can do the cleanning myself. In your situation, Replacing valve seals is a must.

I felt better knowing all the parts were in spec before it went back together.

^^The reason I said that is because in Kelley's case, it seem as cleaning and new valve seals is all that it needed.

im sure that your head is fine , bring it to a good machine shop , and they will know what to do ,

i pulled my stock head at 40k , and it lookd like **** , valves had crap all over em , but it was fine , with new valves and seals .

i did a full REV valvetrain , due to the fact taht i have a built motor

Hey man, you think you could clean the valves up yourself and throw some new valve seals in? i mean wouldn't that be the best route if ultimately you want to P&P the head with a new valvetrain?Since your from Mass and hopefully a Sox fan i got a spare b16 head laying around let me know if you need help man

Can you take more pictures of your head taken apart?

My R smokes pretty bad and I think valve seals are my problem. It has 150k on the clock.

Thanks and lmk if you ran into any problems.

Valves are different.

Call Len and see the price for new ones, they might be affordable.

machine shop should be able to flow test and whatnot to make sure valve is seating correctly etc.

You could of saved yourself money and done the valve seals yourself. All you would do is pull the valves out, clean them, use some valve lapping compound to lap in, and then pop back on block. But if your not comfortable with the work, $320 at a machine shop isn't bad.

i have no problem doing the work myself, I just want to have a valve job done and have it cleaned. and to have them check the seats. i did the valve seals on my 200k+ gsr motor thats in my civic....took a few hours with the head on the car, but that motor wasnt nearly as beaten as my ITR motor
