Default Help clear this up.

Okay so my canadian civic Si doesn't say Vtec on the valve cover, it says honda.
The block infact does say D16Y8 therefore meaning it is the SOHC 1.6L Vtec Engine.
I don't know i dont really even notice vtec kicking in and am unsure if the car even does have it?!

we'll to start. i have a d16z6 and it doesn't say vtec. but its there.
onto the vtec part.... its a single cam, you really wont hear it in a single cam unless you free up air.( intake, header, and exhaust) and its a d-series. you really won't feel much gain from it either.

Sometimes it depends on the engine... My brother has a D16Y8 in his '98 EX and it barely pops at 5600 RPM but one of my friends has a '00 EX and it CLEARLY pops VTEC at 5600...

Haha alright, i kinda suspected that.
I guess my expectations were just a little too high for that little thing called Vtec.

edit... they were high for that motor because for any other motor vtec is the best feeling and the motor can be vtec and not say it on the valve cover just for future reference

You gotta understand what VTEC is and how it functions differently in DOHC and SOHC engines. In DOHC B-Series, H-Series, F-Series and some K-Series engines that are equipped with VTEC, VTEC engages in both intake and exhaust cams. From what I understand, VTEC on SOHC engines, (mostly D-Series,) engages for only the intake valves. This is the same for the K-Series engines that came in the '02-'05 USDM Civic Si's, thats why they are extremely underpowered. In true DOHC VTEC engines, VTEC hits relatively hard which some people give the term "crack" or "pop" to describe what its like when VTEC hits.
