A/C Question
Okay, I have a 99 Civic Hatch DX which I installed a/c on my car a few months ago. The a/c system was purchased from an HT member. I got it the system charged checked for leaks, which it didn't have any
It worked perfect for the first few months but noticed recently that it doesn't get as cold as it used to. I was reading a post on here the other day about reinstalling an a/c and someone said that if the receiver has been sitting around, uninstalled and exposed to open air, that it would be best to replace it with a brand new one when installing the a/c system that way the air would get cold. Is this true?
The receiver I used had been sitting around uninstalled for sometime as far as I know.
Any info on this would be great.

Yes. That is true. The receiver/dryer absorbs any moisture that is in the freon. If the receiver has been exposed to air, it will absorb the moisture in the air eventually rendering it useless.

thanks for the info.
Now I guess I got to get a new received/dryer and install it.

yeah definitely, when you get a new one from the parts store make sure the caps are on it, sometimes there's even a suction to them. the dessicant bag (silica gel) in the reciever/dryer is meant to carry no more than 2mL of water, so on a humid day it can go bad after 20 minutes.
