Default grinding when rpms decelerate, even in nuetral

hey everyone, ok so i just bought a 93 cx and im in the process off swapping in a z6 or y8 what ever i can get my hands on. but until then im stuck with the b8 as my daily. now when i rev the engine and let the rpms drop, i hear a grinding noise sounds kinda like gears that don't mesh up properly and i though it was my tranny but today i realized that it does it in neutral as well with the clutch pushed all the way in. my car also smokes at high rpms its oil so i know its either valve guide seals or a bad ring. I've searched and all similar post don't do it in neutral.. any ideas?

you hear a grinding noise while in neutral and rev the motor. is it more of a very fast paced knocking sound? or a grinding? because it kind of sounds like you have either really bad rod knock or valve tapping. either way, if it's one of those you'll find yourself getting the z6 or y8 real soon.

after playing with it this morning, going up in rpms it sounds more fast paced knock but coming down its slower and inconsistent.

the motor is more than likely on it's way out, like...real soon. if you can get that motor ordered, i'd do it asap.

and try not to drive the car.

Default thanks probot

another thing i failed to mention is that it sounds like its coming from the area around the crank pulley, too loud to be 100 percent sure but is there any chance its the water pump or the timing belt? i just want to be sure cuz swap money isnt easy to come by at the moment. i also didnt see any metal shavings or anything when i changed the oil, would there be if what probot said was the case?
