Default Help! CTR Power Folding Mirror Install

hi, I'm in the process of redoing my whole 1997 civic cx with a usdm b18c1. I'm installing a whole 99-00 front end with the ctr lights and power folding mirror, and power windows/locks from the ex.

I'm not too great at wiring, but I had a couple friends that are really good at electrical systems that could lend me a hand.
I had a couple questions on how everyone else with a 96-00 hatch installs their jdm power folding mirrors.

1) I know there are 5 wires coming off the JDM power folding mirrors. 3 are like the stock that control the adjustment of the mirror itself. Then theres 2 extra wires that are for the folding option. (I don't think mine has the defroster option, I wish it did too.) So, what wires does what? I'm asking because one of the mirrors is in the folded position and I wanted to tap it into a 12v power source to get it to fold back out.

2) How did you guys run the wires into the cabin? The way I see it the cleanest and stock most install would be to add 2 pins to the plugs on each side of the car that go through the door. I don't see any other way to just sneak the wires through anywhere because the plastic plugs cover the whole hole. I'm not sure if you understand what I'm talking about, but I'll get pictures up as soon as I can.

Also where can I find the pins? I know an electrical supplies wholesaler nearby in Redwood City, CA. But, I don't know which pins to buy for both the male and the female side of the plug that connects at the door and runs into the cabin.

3) Just to confirm, I need the jdm power folding mirror relay and I would want the "Green" plug switch right? (I'll be ordering those as soon as I get a confirmation)

4) Where do you guys mount the relay? Just anywhere under the dash?

Thanks in advance for any help. I noticed there aren't any good power folding mirror install write ups, so I'm planning on doing a step by step install write up when I'm done with this. I just need some help getting it together.

Im doing the same as far as the mirror install. Your best bet is to go down to pick n pull and find an EK with power anything in the doors and steal a few pins from the door connector and as much wire as you can get off of it as well. Use those two for the folding option. I have the schematics for the JDM mirror if you need it. Let me know Ill send it to you. Most of the electricalwholesalers wont have the pins that Honda uses. At least I have had a hard time finding any thats why I robbed some off a wrecked EK. Hope this helps you. Good luck!

yeah, Thanks TwoToes, I went out to look at my car early and I noticed the pins they used for my 97 civic cx floor harness are the same as the ones in the door. I just switched to the ex floor harness so I might salvage the cx floor harness. I was wondering if you knew what the procedure is for de pinning those Honda pins from the plugs.

It'd be great if you could send me the schematics. My email address is tnguyen720@gmail.com

I think I almost have everything figured out. I just have to wait until spring break (first week in April) to be able to put everything together and do a write up.

Why do you need pins? are you going to try to use the stock harness for your mirrors? did you mirrors not come with pigtails?

The way i got the extra into my car was i drilled a very small hole in my door and took the wires ran them through some harness loom, then made the hole the same size as the loom so it hugged the loom tight. Ran the loom with the wires into the cab by cuttint a small slit in the rubber grammet that the oem door harness comes out of then ran the wires to the other door under the dash then repeated the same procedure on that side. when its all said and done you can hardly tell what you've done if you do it cause the loom makes it look very oem.

Dont apply 12 directly to the mirror it has to run through the relay, you can push on the mirror and it will pop out to the out position. They can manuel fold if you push on them, mine got stuck with i was trying to figure out wiring diagram and thats what i did. As for a wiring diagram, it depends on the switch as far as i know there are two diff switchs, one with a milky white plug and one with a green plug on the back, but once again did your stuff come with pigtails? here is my wiring diagram i made for the milky white plug, if you have the green plug just search on here.

Thanks Dr. *****. I do have the pig tails for everything. I was thinking of adding the wire directly to the plug that connects at the door. There is are plenty of extra slots for the wire I just to find the correct pin and it'd be just like OEM. But, if that doesn't work out I guess I could just do what you did and drill a small hole into the door.

Come on Brian... the OP hasn't posted in nine years. I doubt very seriously that you will get a reply from him/her. In the future, when you dig up a ten year old dead thread, you might check the user profile to get an idea of what the possibility of a real response might be. Otherwise, you will just get flamed for digging up an old post and running up your post count. Now if you could offer a solution to an old dead thread like this one... the mods will give you a pat on the back.
