In addition, the i-DTEC engine meets the ultra-stringent U.S. EPA Tier II Bin 5 emission standards without the on-board storage of urea.
The i-DTEC clean diesel engine is on display exclusively in the Acura booth at the North American International Auto Show and will be utilized in an Acura vehicle to be named at a later date

This is for people who didn't know. Going to be interesting to see what Honda Heads can do with this. I honestly think this is going to be interesting because i've seen turbo'd diesals put out some sick *** insane power in a truck running fast times for a diesal. 12-14's stock (I used to live in cheyenne wyoming, you'd be surprised the **** you saw).

this has been out for awhile. its great that honda is doing this especially with the insane gas prices. diesel is 20-30% more gas efficient. i talked to one of the guys at acura corporate and they confirmed that it will be used on a TSX.

That's nice, but have you seen the price of diesel lately? It's more expensive than normal gas in my area, by a good bit.

And diesel motors are great for trucks that can utilize the torque, but I'm still not sold on diesel in a performance car. Say goodbye to those 8000rpm sounds and power rush if you decide to go that direction.

 

true, but diesel isn't eatin up as fast as regular gas.

Yeah i'm not set on the turbo diesel in a sports car but i've seen some crazy stuff in a turbo diesel truck. It is quite interesting tho but will never replace the high rpm and power from a 4 cylinder you get now.

I highly doubt that.. as they already revised the TSX as we speak for 09 which has no turbo diesel in it. Wouldn't make any sense to throw it in the TSX again. It hasn't even been confirmed what car they will put it in as this was released in Janurary. I think they were talkin out their *** or they actually didn't work for Acura corporate.

 

Yes very interesting. I have to seen some crazy crap come out of a turbo or supercharged diesel truck. Whether diesel or not if oil is going up it all goes up. But diesel from petrolium is called petrodiesel usually. There are biodiesels starting to emerge that R not from petrolium. It is just the beginning.

 

okay this is my take on disel cars. I bought a brand new 2006 vw golf gls tdi auto with luxury package and esp. Out the door it cost me 32900 cdn. I put 2000 down and future value financed the rest 260.01 bi-weekly for 5 years with a buy out of 9800. The car would get 850km per take steady(80% highway) but look at ALL THE COSTS INVOLVED. Oil change 113.00 from the dealer(every 16000km) also the fact that disel is about 15-21 cents per liter more than regular gas. I sold this p.o.s last year and bought a 2007 mazda 3 gt. I put 2000 down and financed the rest 462.00 for 6 years NO BUYOUT. The car gets 700km per tank steady and I now pay 140.00 less for insurance and only 40.00 for an oil change.

So my point is the extra 200km per tank you save you are actually paying more than triple in other expenses hence why I beileve that a disel car is not a smart way to save money.

Very nice. Wanna see the price on this cause it could be a good daily alternative to a Jetta TDI with the way gas prices are going.

 

Diesel power is the wave of the future. I recall reading an article how Audi was using diesel in LM competition and smoking the competition. The article went on to say that the lower reving engine uses less fuel, makes less noise, and required fewer pits and had more power for entry and exits into turns. Also a lower revving engine has the potential to last longer especially in endurance races.

LoL, I love when people compare 2 completely different makes in seperate classes. VW labor rate on services is undoubtedly higher than that of Mazda. Even at $40 you are getting rapped. I use genuine parts on my car but when I need documented service that isn't covered under waranty I find a reputable Honda/Acura exclusive service garage.

How are they seperate classes, both are 5 door hatbacks under $30,000. I am only saying the MONEY you save in fuel is made up for in the price of the car. There is no dought that a disel engine will normally outlast a gas engine and for overall performance will comparable in many ways. I am stricktly talking about cost ratios between the two.

 

While a diesel may outlast a gas engine, who here buys a car anymore and puts 200K+ miles on it (original owner)?

While Diesel looks good on paper, it's one of those thinigs that in real life the savings just isn't there. Fuel is way more expensive right now, the initial cost of the car is no savings, no tax breaks like there is on hybrids, etc.

Diesel trucks are good things, but Diesel cars still have no practical purpose at this point in time.

 

Just about the only car I would buy with a turbo diesel, new or used, would be a Mercedes. I would purchase a C-class base Benz with a diesel and drive it until the wheels fell off. I would try to get in a high-mileage club. I would only buy a diesel engined Benz in an older used segment (15 yrs +) due to the durability of the engines. As far as a performance car, I still wish I had a Spoon B16A that revved to 13K. May not last as long, but it is fun. A performance car is meant for just that - performance. Usually for the original owner because they will drive the hell out of it and the used car buyer will get whatever is left. Oh well, just my take.
