a friend told me it would be ok to go to a carwash and use the degreaser
on the engine, i had my doubts so thought i'd ask/ i have an acura 1999 3.2 TL
it's deffinatly a high maint. car, and it was smoking today, so if someone who knows
would please give me some advice i'd really appreciate it.

Last time I did that my car wouldn't start for 4 hours. If your engine bay is smoking, you have more problems than just a dirty engine. You are probably leaking some fluid onto your headers. I'd either take it to a local mechanic for diagnosis, or repost here (or in the correct forum for your TL) with more info.

I don't recommend spraying a hot engine off, but you could definitely degrease everything and spray it off. Be sure to cover up the distributor/coil packs. Don't focus on one particular part.
