H22A OBD1 swap in a F20 OBD2 5th Gen
Hi everybody,
I want to fit my H22a motor (OBD1) in my OBD2 5th gen non-Vtec...
I have the harness of the H22A and I want use harness converter with P13 Obd2 Ecu.
What parts of Harness I need In Obd1 or Obd2 ?
I don't know how I can do ?

Generally people swapping OBD1 H22s into their H22 5th gens will use the OEM OBD2 wire harness and convert the new engine to OBD2 by borrowing parts off their old engine.
Then if they want to use an OBD1 ECU they just run a conversion harness at the end.
That said if you have an uncut OBD1 harness with the H22 and some patience you could make the whole car OBD1. You might have to if the OBD2 F20 bits wouldn't swap over to the H22 right (I have no idea if they would).

some patience? more like a lot and a lot of confidence in wiring skills, lol.
been down that road before and it put me in my place.

Ok, If I convert all motors parts in Obd2, I want know what element is required...Distributor, knock sensor...and ? (sorry but This part is unclear to me..
)
The Obd1 element should be replace by Obd2 or I can just "re-pins" the plug ?
Can you explain me what element need a Obd convesion please
I think Use P13 Obd1 ecu with conversion harness with my stock Obd2 main and motor harness.

Thank, good thread !
But I Can't swap my Obd2 f20 parts because they don't fit on the H22A.
It's my problem.
Sorry but I'm french and sometimes I have difficulty translating or a make myself understood, I hope that you will understand.

your english is fine, i can understand you perfectly. You type better than half the "americans" here.
if you want to convert it over to OBDII, you will need to obtain the OBDII h22 parts in that list.

Thank you very much
I think than the motor will remain OBD1, if I succed with the harness, because is the cheaper way ( I think) but not the easier unfortunatly...
Do the connectors on the harness in the engine bay can be "re-pined" ?
Does there a special tool to extract connector's wires ? How to ?

Really ?
The principle to convert isn't the same as for the distributor obd swap ?
I don't really see the work to do for This Obd swap, Concretely...

Is that the method ?

you have the schematic for OBDIIB and you have the schematic for OBDI.
All this takes is matching up each wire so that each one corresponds to each other on both sides.
take out a piece of paper and literally write down each pin for OBDIIb and each pin for OBDI. Then draw arrows to each respective pin.
You are going to have to repin everything at the subharness to engine harness connectors as well and you will need to rewire one of the connectors because they will not connect to each other. You may be able to fit everything through the 4 big connectors tho.
double, triple check your wiring using a multimeter to make sure that each one has continuity going to each respective sensor.
Use the OBDI connectors and solder them to the OBDII subharness wires. There will be a few wires from the OBDII subharness that wont have any place on the OBDI connectors for obvious reasons. I cant stress enough how much work this is to complete.

Hi, I give some news
The swap is made...

I keep my obd2 harness, using a jumper obda2-obd1. I want to run my motor obd1
But the H22A does not work correctly when I plug the ECU obd1, it is soft, the RPM evolution is slow and failure.
with the obd2a ecu the h22a run better but with obd1 injector with resistor box and no vtec. it's strange.
here's what I change for now :
I have made an adapter for the distributor obd1

I have ad the resistor box for run the obd1 injector

I have instal the 4th gen MAP sensor

And I have ad temporary wires for ad vtec, I have wire the Vtec solenoid (A4), the knock sensor (D3), the Vtec pressure switch (D6 and D22)

But Vtec don't run.
My rev limit is 6500 !!
Help me please, I have no idea
there happens the other change has to do?
I have a CEL code 6, 20 and 22. water temp is connected (on the head under the distributor), vtec pressure switch is connected...
It's only with p13 obd1 than the motor run bad, with obd2 run fine
What is the black box near my ecu on the last pic ??

I read in many thread that many guy who swap H22 have the problem with the ECT (code6) but i don't find the solution
Help, i'm in limp mode
Help, i'm in limp mode
Ok, ECT is good, no code 6 yet.
Where is the swapping profesionals ? please help me.
I'm still in limp mode, without Vtec...
