i think your avitar scared everyone away.......no I do not run with the cover removed. it is there for a reason

I had the upper cover removed for a while until a small rock or something got in there and threw my timing belt off. It took me forever to find the problem when my car was running like ***. You can hear your cam gears spinning a little bit with the cover off.

That's just great.... 
I just cut off the side so I can expose my cam gear. Well, good excuse to go out and get the OEM Red valve cover now
